What is a Digital Flipbook? What is a Digital Flipbook? A Digital Flipbook is an interactive, digital recreation of a print publication. Digital Flipbooks copy the look and feel of reading a physical book, magazine or brochure. When you turn the page, it feels like you are turning the page in a printed publication with page-turning sound effects and page shadows. How can I view Ancestor as a Digital Flipbook? How can I view Ancestor as a Digital Flipbook? You can view Ancestor as a Digital Flipbook on your computer or your mobile device (smartphone or tablet). When you are viewing Ancestor on your computer, you will have a toolbar at the bottom of the page with buttons that enable you to request certain functions such as Fullscreen mode, zoom in and out, turn sound effects on or off, download some or all of the pages of the original PDF, or print one or more pages from the original PDF. When you are viewing Ancestor on your mobile device, you will be able to request those same functions but many of them will be performed using touch controls instead of toolbar buttons. Once you click on that button, you will be able to enter the text for your search. You will then see a list of pages where that text appears. You can then select a particular page of interest. All instances of the search text will be highlighted in yellow. When you are viewing Ancestor on your mobile device, the same method is used. Unfortuntely not. The system only allows you to search within a particular issue of Ancestor, not across multiple issues. If you visit the GSV, you can access digital copies of all Ancestor issues and there is a word or phrase search allowing searches across all these issues. What if there are hyperlinks within Ancestor? What if there are hyperlinks within Ancestor? Any hyperlinks, i.e. links to web pages or email addresses, that appear in the orginal publication will be preserveed within the Flipbook. When you are viewing Ancestor on your computer, you can use your mouse pointer to hover over what appears to be a hyperlink. If the background colour changes to light blue, this indicates the link is active. You can then click on the link to go to that address. When you are viewing Ancestor on your mobile device, simply tap the screen where a hyperlink appears to go to that address. Can I view Ancestor in Fullscreen? Can I view Ancestor in Fullscreen? Yes. When you are viewing Ancestor on your computer, look for the Fullscreen button which is the second button from the right on the toolbar at the bottom of the page. Once you click on that button, you will be able to view the pages of Ancestor without the distraction of the other elements of the display screen. To exit Fullscreen mode, press the escape key (Esc). When you are viewing Ancestor on your mobile device, simply tap the screen once to enter Fullscreen mode. To exit Fullscreen mode, tap the screen again. Can I zoom in and out when viewing Ancestor? Can I zoom in and out when viewing Ancestor? Yes. When you are viewing Ancestor on your computer, look for the Zoom button which is the button on the right on the toolbar at the bottom of the page. Once you click on that button, you will be able to zoom in. A slider bar will then be displayed where you can control the zoom level. To zoom out, press the Zoom button again. When you are viewing Ancestor on your mobile device, simply tap the screen twice to zoom in. To zoom out, tap the screen twice again. Can I turn sound effects on or off when viewing Ancestor? Once you click on that button, you will be able to turn off the page turning sound. To turn the sound effect back on, press the Sound button again. When you are viewing Ancestor on your mobile device, you can control the sound effects by using the volume button on your device. Can I download a copy of Ancestor? Can I download a copy of Ancestor? Yes. You can download one or more pages of the original PDF.
